Travis Louie has created a world populated by curiosities, sideshow barkers, Krampus' and creatures human and hybrid. He has invented a world where no detail goes unresolved, either in his subject's biographical history or the technical virtuosity with which he paints his beloved inventions.  Travis Louie paintings refer to Victorian photographic portraiture, and his technique reinforce the historical connections to another time. They are simultaneously antique and modern.
About his paintings the artist says: "My work is about identity and remembrance,...also a veiled commentary on racism and the immigrant experience. I would like the fear of "the other" to be replaced with a curiosity about the unknown and a sense of wonder regarding those things that are unfamiliar."
