Originally a New York based artist, Michael Abrams paints in his studio in the Green Mountain National forest in southern Vermont. He grew up in Rensselaer County in New York State in a home perched above the majestic greenery of the Hudson River Valley. The bucolic images of the sprawling fertile land, scenic beauty and majestic sunsets has became deeply ingrained in his subconscious and profoundly influences the way he sees the world.
"The story I am telling about the natural world is based in traditional American luminist landscape painting of the mid 19th century. My work is about how I see nature through memory but also about restraint. It is just as much about my process of slowly layering glazes that bring me to these visual conclusions within a minimal presentation as it is about connecting the viewer to an experience with nature". |
